Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What does “CSA Standard Z1210 (Intermediate)” mean?
A: In Alberta, the course traditionally known as “Standard First Aid” is now officially classified under the national CSA Z1210 standard as “Intermediate First Aid.” Our Red Cross Standard First Aid course fully meets these updated provincial and federal Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements. If your employer is asking for an “Intermediate First Aid” ticket, this is the exact course you need.

Q: How long is my Red Cross Standard First Aid certificate valid?
A: Your Red Cross Standard (Intermediate) First Aid certification is valid for exactly three (3) years from the date of completion.

Q: What is the difference between the 2-Day In-Person and the Blended course?
A: Both courses provide the exact same certification, but the delivery method differs:

  • 2-Day In-Person: You spend two full days (approx. 15 hours total) in the classroom with an instructor covering both theory and practical skills.
  • Blended: You complete the theory portion online at your own pace (approx. 8 hours) before attending a single 7.5-hour in-person class focused entirely on hands-on practical skills (like CPR and bandaging).

Q: Can I take the Recertification course if my current ticket is expired?
A: No. Under Red Cross regulations, to qualify for the 1-day Recertification course, you must hold a valid, unexpired Standard First Aid certificate issued by either the Canadian Red Cross or St. John Ambulance. If your certificate has expired—even by one day—you are required to retake the full 2-day or blended course.

Q: Does this training include CPR and AED certification?
A: Yes. The Red Cross Standard First Aid course covers essential airway, breathing, and circulation emergencies. This includes comprehensive, hands-on training for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
