Course Overview:
Whether you are performing maintenance in a mill or working on a commercial build, understanding your equipment is the first step to safety. Our course covers the essential physics and operations of MEWPs (Mobile Elevating Work Platforms) to keep your projects moving safely.
Core Curriculum:
- Comprehensive Coverage: Covers both boom-supported and self-propelled (scissor) lifts.
- Site Safety: Learn to assess ground conditions and overhead hazards specific to outdoor and indoor environments.
- Practical Skills: Hands-on evaluation ensures every student can operate the machinery competently.
- Regulation Awareness: Stay up to date with the latest Alberta OHS and CSA standards.
Training Details:
- Location: 65021 Highway 43, Grande Prairie, AB.
- Duration: Approximately 4 hours (includes practical component).
- Certification: Upon successful completion (80% minimum on both theory and practical components), you’ll receive a certificate.
- Re-certification: Required every three years.
- Prerequisites: All students must bring valid government-issued identification.
- PPE Required: 6″ safety boots, safety gloves, hard hat, safety glasses, and hi-vis vests.
- Cancellations: 24-hour notice is required. Late arrivals or no-shows will forfeit the full course fee. Qualified substitutions are permitted up to the course start date.

Q: Do I need a Fall Protection ticket before taking AWP?
A: While not always a strict prerequisite for taking the course, Fall Protection training is highly recommended and often legally required to operate a boom lift on a job site. WestPro offers a Fall Prevention/AWP Combo course as well.
Q: What type of footwear do I need for the course?
A: You must wear CSA-approved 6-inch safety boots. This is mandatory for the practical portion of the training.
