Course Overview:
Our Edmonton instructors guide students through the physics of lifting and the mechanics of overhead cranes (bridge, gantry, and jib styles). The course emphasizes the protection of both personnel and expensive facility assets during hoisting operations.
Key Learning Modules:
- Hardware Inspection: How to identify “removal from service” criteria for synthetic slings, wire rope, and shackles.
- Calculations: Determining load weight and calculating Working Load Limits (WLL) based on sling angles.
- Crane Controls: Mastering the pendant or remote control for smooth trolley and bridge travel.
- Signaling: Standardized hand signals for communication between the rigger and operator.
Training Details:

- Certification: Upon successful completion (80% minimum on both theory and practical components), you’ll receive a certificate.
- Re-certification: Required every three years.
- Prerequisites: All students must bring valid government-issued identification.
- PPE Required: 6″ safety boots, safety gloves, hard hat, safety glasses, and hi-vis vests.
- Cancellations: 24-hour notice is required. Late arrivals or no-shows will forfeit the full course fee. Qualified substitutions are permitted up to the course start date.
